The Asheville Fire Department (AFD) Task Force 2 has once again answered the call of duty to aid fellow Americans in Texas. "The devastation wrought by flooding in the Houston area demands swift and decisive action," said an AFD spokesperson. The Type I swift water rescue team has been deployed to assist in rescuing and evacuating those affected by the floods.

According to the National Weather Service, Houston has been facing devastating rains and flooding, with some areas experiencing over 23 inches of rainfall. In response, AFD and Buncombe County Fire team members were deployed on May 4 with a wealth of experience, equipment, and unwavering determination.

"Our swift water rescue team embodies the spirit of solidarity and service," remarked a representative of the AFD. The team has trained relentlessly to hone their skills and create partnerships that ensure effective rescue operations. This deployment could last up to 14 days, during which team members will be separated from their loved ones and the comforts of home.

"We ask that you keep our NC Task Force 2 team in your hearts and minds as they embark on this mission," urged the AFD spokesperson. The team looks forward to a safe return and is grateful for the expertise and comfort they can provide to the residents of Houston during this challenging time.
