Water Resources in Asheville has announced the launch of WaterSmart, a new online service designed to help customers manage their water consumption and utility bills. The service is available at no cost as part of the city’s Advanced Metering Infrastructure project.

According to Water Resources, “WaterSmart is a user-friendly resource that will allow customers to monitor water usage, manage and pay their bill and be notified when usage surges, indicating an issue such as a leak.”

The program is scheduled to go live on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. Customers can register for the service by visiting ashevillenc.watersmart.com. Those who already have an online account with Water Resources are required to use the email address currently on file for registration.

For customers managing multiple properties or meters, accounts can be linked using the same email address and password. Alternatively, users can log into WaterSmart with one registered account and add additional accounts by clicking on their address in the top right corner, selecting “Add Account,” and entering the relevant account information.

Primary account holders also have the option to add other users. Instructions provided state: “Click on the drop-down menu under ‘Settings,’ click on ‘Account Settings,’ then scroll down to ‘Additional Users.’ Select the user’s role, then enter the user’s name and email.”

Water usage data displayed through WaterSmart is updated several times daily but not in real time. “The data you see is in near-real-time. Data is transmitted from the meter four times per day and usually takes a few hours to process and show on your account,” according to Water Resources.

Asheville’s City Hall at 70 Court Plaza serves as its main administrative center for municipal operations (https://www.ashevillenc.gov/). The city delivers municipal services—including water resources management—within its limits through coordination among departments such as Public Works, Water Resources, and Planning (https://www.ashevillenc.gov/).

Residents with questions about WaterSmart are encouraged to contact Customer Service at (828) 251-1122.
