The City of Asheville has announced a public presentation on the Asheville Region Housing Needs Assessment, scheduled for Tuesday, August 26, 2025. The event will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Thomas Auditorium, Blue Ridge Community College in Flat Rock, North Carolina.
Researcher Patrick Bowen of Bowen National Research will present findings from the latest assessment, followed by a panel discussion and Q&A session focused on the region’s housing needs.
The study covers Buncombe, Henderson, Madison, and Transylvania counties—a region spanning about 1,857 square miles—and includes detailed analysis of each county as well as the city of Asheville. The report reviews current and projected housing needs, examining real estate trends, supply and demand issues, affordability concerns, and other factors that influence local housing policy and development. The full 2025 report is available on the City Website.
This assessment updates a previous comprehensive study completed in March 2020. It features additional analysis specific to Asheville due to its status as the largest city in the region. Local officials emphasize that understanding demographic shifts and employment trends is important for planning future housing strategies.
According to the City of Asheville, “The Housing Needs Assessment allows government officials, area stakeholders, and other interested parties to better understand the region’s evolving housing market, and establish housing priorities by modifying, expanding, or introducing local government housing policies.”
Bowen National Research conducts real estate market analysis throughout the United States and its territories. Their services include site-specific feasibility studies as well as broader regional assessments.
