Assistant Fire Chief Patrick Crudup retires from Asheville Fire Department

Assistant Fire Chief of Operations Patrick Crudup will retire from the Asheville Fire Department on February 1. Crudup, originally from Bunn, North Carolina, graduated from Mars Hill College in 1995 and began his career with the City of Asheville in 1997 at the Parks and Recreation Department. He joined the fire department in 2002 after completing firefighter training.

Crudup has advanced through various roles within the department and currently serves as Assistant Chief of Operations. His contributions to the REST team and Honor Guard have been recognized as significant to the department.

“Serving alongside each of you has been a privilege and a defining part of my career,” said Assistant Chief Crudup. “I am sincerely grateful for your professionalism, dedication, and unwavering commitment to our crews and to the people we serve across the City of Asheville.”

Following Crudup’s retirement, Assistant Fire Chief Michael Coggins will become Interim Operations Bureau Chief starting February 1. The city plans to announce details about hiring for the Assistant Fire Chief position soon.
