Brook Stone Living Center earned an overall 2 out of 5 rating for the first quarter of 2026, based on data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). This result is below the North Carolina average of 2.9 for nursing homes.
The facility provided 80 available beds during that period, which is 25 fewer than the average for North Carolina nursing homes in the first quarter of 2026. An average of 66.5 residents were served during this time.
By the end of the first quarter of 2026, Brook Stone Living Center had accrued one fine totaling $18,600 and faced one penalty.
U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate the number of older adults continues to rise while the younger population declines. Between 2020 and 2024, the nation saw its population age 65 and older rise by 13%, and its population under 18 drop by 1.7%. Over the last century, the country’s older adult population has grown substantially, shifting from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million by 2024.
A study released in 2021 estimates that about half of this demographic, or roughly 28 million people, will likely need long-term services or supports. The research also predicts that more than a third may require care in a nursing facility.
“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education organization. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
