City of Asheville municipal offices will be closed from December 24 through December 26, as well as on January 1, 2026. The closures will affect several city services during the holiday period.

For public transportation, Asheville Rides Transit (ART) will end service at 6:30 p.m. on December 24 and will not operate on December 25. A holiday schedule will be in effect on January 1. Residents are encouraged to use the Moovit app or visit the City of Asheville Transit webpage for route planning and information.

The Sanitation Office will also close from December 24 to December 26. Trash collection scheduled for Thursday, December 25, will occur on Friday, December 26. Brush crews will work Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday that week. Residents can sign up for reminders about schedule changes and learn about recycling guidelines by downloading the AVL Collects app or visiting the city’s sanitation webpages. Eight food scrap drop-off sites remain available for residential composting within Asheville and Buncombe County.

Asheville Parks & Recreation reports that most parks and greenways are open daily from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., with exceptions for some facilities such as Azalea Park, French Broad River Park, certain areas of Carrier Park, parts of Richmond Hill Park, and portions of the French Broad River Greenway which are closed or partially accessible due to maintenance or damage. All community centers and administrative offices are closed from December 24-26 and January 1; however, outdoor features adjacent to these buildings remain open during regular hours. Riverside Cemetery grounds are open but some areas may be inaccessible due to recent storm damage.

Community entertainment venues including Harrah’s Cherokee Center – Asheville and iHeart Media Asheville Box Office will close on December 24-26, December 29, and January 1. The WNC Nature Center is closed on December 24-25 and January 1. The Asheville Municipal Golf & Disc Golf Course is only closed on December 25.

All emergency services such as police, fire, and emergency response continue normal operations throughout the holidays.

Water Resources staff remain available around the clock for emergencies over the holiday weekend via the customer service line at (828) 251-1122. Maintenance crews are prepared to respond to outages or other emergencies while water treatment plants stay fully staffed.

Asheville’s City Hall at 70 Court Plaza serves as the central hub for municipal operations including public works, water resources management, parks administration, sanitation services, transit oversight and other essential functions provided by city government under its council-manager structure (official website). These departments coordinate efforts to deliver consistent governance and community engagement even during adjusted schedules around holidays.
