The City of Asheville continues its bi-monthly radio show, “What’s Up AVL!”, offering residents an opportunity to hear directly from city staff and learn about ongoing projects in the community.
In the latest episode, Jeremy Knighton, Assistant Fire Chief, joined host Sam Parada to discuss emergency preparedness and the city’s response during last year’s Helene storm. The discussion focused on the importance of being ready for emergencies, especially as hurricane season approaches.
“It is that time of the year when being prepared for an emergency is very important! With hurricane season coming up, do you have the necessary items stored away to be self-reliant for up to 72 hours during an emergency? If not, or if you don’t know, check out this handy video that gives examples of useful items to store in an emergency kit for any such case,” said Knighton.
Knighton also shared insights about the city’s efforts during Helene. “Hear from Jeremy Knight himself about what went on behind the scenes during the storm as staff worked hard to save lives and recover after Helene hit.”
Residents can listen to “What’s Up AVL!” live on Wednesdays at noon. For those unable to tune in live, replays are available Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 12:30-1:00 p.m. on WRES 100.7 FM.
