City of Asheville issued the following announcement on Dec. 23.
The City of Asheville Public Works Department currently maintains just over 400 miles of streets and nearly 200 miles of sidewalk within the city. With a 2022 calendar year budget just over 2 million dollars, Streets division teams hit the streets, tasked with carrying out the maintenance designed to safely keep our community moving.

So what’s still “in the works”?
Here in Asheville, Mother Nature sometimes likes to have her say. City of Asheville crews had to give her a nod and slide slated nightworks on College St, between Oak St and Charlotte St, towards spring when warmer and drier weather better accommodates night work. City crews are working nights so you can keep moving through your day.
On Sulphur Springs Rd, where residents are enjoying new and improved stormwater drainage thanks to the folks in Public Works/ Stormwater, paving work will begin in spring of 2023 to allow ADA sidewalk improvements to be completed.
City Council has approved nearly 4-million dollars to continue road maintenance efforts in 2023.
