The City of Asheville’s radio show, “What’s Up AVL!”, recently focused on the city’s emergency response to the winter storms that affected the area. The episode featured host Sam Parada in conversation with Ross Parkinson, a member of Asheville Fire Department’s Fire Support Services and staff at the Emergency Operations Center.
During their discussion, they reviewed aspects of the city’s response that were effective during this recent period and highlighted ongoing improvements based on lessons learned from previous events such as Helene. “They discuss what worked well during this latest emergency response period and how response continues to improve due the valuable lesson we learned responding to our community’s needs during Helene,” according to the program.
The bi-monthly radio show aims to inform residents about projects, programs, and initiatives led by city staff and departments. It provides an opportunity for community members to learn more about municipal operations.
Residents can listen live every Wednesday at noon or catch replays from 12:30-1:00 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays on WRES 100.7 FM. Previous episodes are also available on the City’s YouTube channel.
