The City of Asheville has received approval for approximately $11 million in federal funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to aid recovery efforts after Tropical Storm Helene. The funds will be used for water system projects aimed at protecting the city’s watershed and improving community resilience.

“On behalf of the City of Asheville, I want to thank the Department of Homeland Security for approving critical funds to support our community’s recovery from Tropical Storm Helene. These resources will not only help us rebuild but will also strengthen resilience in our water system and our watershed for the future. We are deeply grateful to our partners at FEMA, as well as Senators Ted Budd and Thom Tillis, and Congressman Chuck Edwards, for their continued advocacy and support of Asheville,” said Mayor Esther Manheimer.

The city views this funding as an important step in its ongoing collaboration with state and federal agencies to secure further resources needed to restore essential infrastructure.

Mayor Manheimer is currently in Washington, D.C., accompanied by Governor Josh Stein, to advocate for additional funding allocations for Asheville and Western North Carolina.
