Haywood County commissioners meeting cancelled due to winter weather

All Haywood County Government offices will be closed on Monday, February 2, 2026, due to inclement winter weather. As a result, the Haywood Board of County Commissioners has cancelled its scheduled meeting for that day. According to Amy L. Stevens, Clerk to the Board of County Commissioners, “Agenda items will be rescheduled for upcoming regular Commissioners meetings as appropriate.”

Recent data from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction shows that in the 2022-23 school year, 26% of senior students and 27.9% of junior students in Haywood County school districts were considered ready for college in science based on their ACT scores (https://www.dpi.nc.gov/). In reading, 42.1% of seniors and 40.8% of juniors met college readiness benchmarks (https://www.dpi.nc.gov/). For math, the percentages were 26% for seniors and 28.3% for juniors (https://www.dpi.nc.gov/).
