Haywood County commissioners set special meeting to interview tourism board candidates

The Haywood County Board of Commissioners has announced a special meeting to be held on January 20, 2026. The meeting will begin at 5:00 PM in the conference room of the Haywood County Historic Courthouse at 215 North Main Street, Waynesville, NC.

According to the announcement, “The purpose of the meeting is to conduct interviews for the Haywood County Tourism Development Authority Board.”

Residents with questions are encouraged to contact the County Manager’s Office at 828.452.6625.

The notice was signed by Haven B. Muse, Deputy Clerk for the Haywood County Commissioners.

Recent data from Haywood County school districts show that in the 2022-23 school year, about 26% of senior students and nearly 28% of junior students were considered ready for college in science according to ACT results (https://www.dpi.nc.gov/). In reading, approximately 42% of seniors and almost 41% of juniors met college readiness benchmarks (https://www.dpi.nc.gov/). For math, around 26% of seniors and just over 28% of juniors achieved scores indicating college readiness (https://www.dpi.nc.gov/).
