Haywood County Commissioners to attend Council of Governments meeting in Clyde on April 21

The Haywood County Board of Commissioners will attend the Haywood County Council of Governments meeting on April 21 at 6 p.m., according to an announcement from Deputy Clerk Haven B. Muse. The meeting will be hosted by the Town of Clyde at 8437 Carolina Blvd., Clyde, North Carolina.

The Council of Governments brings together elected officials and staff from Haywood County and the towns of Canton, Clyde, Maggie Valley, and Waynesville. The purpose is to provide updates on events, projects, and issues from each municipality and the county.

No official business for Haywood County will be conducted during this session. Residents with questions are encouraged to contact the County Manager’s office at 828-452-6625.

Education data for Haywood County shows that in the 2022-23 school year, among senior students taking the science portion of the ACT exam in local school districts, about one-quarter were considered ready for college according to state education data. For juniors taking the same test, just over a quarter met college readiness benchmarks according to state education data. In reading, about two-fifths of both seniors and juniors achieved scores indicating college readiness according to state education data. For math results during that year, roughly one-quarter of seniors and slightly more than a quarter of juniors were considered ready for college-level work according to state education data.

The gathering allows municipal leaders an opportunity to share information across jurisdictions but does not involve formal decisions or votes by county commissioners.
