The Haywood County Board of Commissioners is inviting residents to apply for a one-year term on the 2026 Board of Equalization and Review (BOER). The board’s main role is to hear appeals regarding property values, including real, personal, and discovered property assessments for the 2026 tax year. The BOER will meet according to a schedule set by the commissioners.

There are five open positions on the board. Appointees will receive financial compensation for their service. Additional information about the BOER is available at https://www.haywoodcountync.gov/251/Board-of-Equalization-Review.

Applications can be downloaded from the county website’s “How Do I…Submit Volunteer Board or Committee Application” section at https://www.haywoodcountync.gov/9/How-Do-I, or collected in person from the County Manager’s Office on the third floor of the Haywood County Courthouse in Waynesville between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Completed forms may be returned to this office or emailed to Haven B. Muse, Deputy Clerk to the Board of County Commissioners, at haven.muse@haywoodcountync.gov. For more details, applicants can call (828) 452-6625.

Due to recent inclement weather and resulting office closures, as well as limited response to email inquiries during that period, officials have extended the application deadline.

The new deadline for submitting applications is February 11, 2026.
