Haywood Regional Medical Center (HRMC) hosted a Lunch & Learn event focused on dementia, drawing more than 70 attendees from the community. The session took place at the Haywood Regional Health & Fitness Center and was led by Dr. Al Mina, chief medical officer for HRMC. Dr. Mina discussed the definition of dementia, its progression, its effects on families and caregivers, and activities that may help support cognitive function.

The program lasted one hour and included a question-and-answer segment with Dr. Mina. Attendees received information and resources to better understand and manage dementia.

Sue Shugart, CEO of Haywood Regional Medical Center, stated, “We’re committed to offering timely, accessible education on topics that matter most to our neighbors. Today’s turnout shows how much our community values learning directly from expert providers.”

The Lunch & Learn is part of HRMC’s ongoing efforts to provide public education and wellness events throughout the year as part of its mission to improve community health. The hospital plans to continue offering educational sessions on various health topics along with resource fairs and wellness activities. More information about future events can be found on HRMC’s website or social media channels.
