Haywood Regional Medical Center has announced the addition of Dr. Michael Sirignano, an orthopaedic surgeon, to its medical staff. Starting October 1, Dr. Sirignano will see patients at Western Carolina Orthopaedic Specialists in Clyde, where he will provide a range of orthopaedic services with a focus on shoulder and upper-extremity procedures.

Dr. Sirignano completed a fellowship with the Idaho Shoulder and Elbow Research Foundation and an orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Louisville. He holds a medical degree and a master’s degree in physiology from the University of Cincinnati, as well as a bachelor’s degree in biology from Wake Forest University.

He treats conditions such as sports injuries, joint pain, complex fractures, and degenerative issues. His practice includes care for hips, knees, wrists, and other joints in addition to his specialty areas.

“I chose orthopaedics because it allows me to help people return to the activities they love,” said Dr. Sirignano. “Whether it’s mountain biking, rock climbing, or simply walking with grandchildren, I take pride in offering care that gets people moving again.”

Dr. Sirignano has conducted research in orthopaedic surgery, autoimmune disease, and sports medicine. He has published peer-reviewed articles and presented at international conferences.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Sirignano to our medical staff,” said Sue Shugart, FACHE, CPPS, CEO of Haywood Regional Medical Center. “His clinical training, research experience, and enthusiasm for patient care make him a tremendous addition to our team. We’re excited for the expertise he brings to Western Carolina Orthopaedic Specialists and for the impact he’ll have on the lives of patients across our region.”

Originally from New England but familiar with western North Carolina since his college years at Wake Forest University in Winston Salem, Dr. Sirignano expressed his connection to the area.

“I felt an immediate connection to the people and the landscape in WNC,” he said. “After more than a decade away, I’m excited to return and make a home in this beautiful community.”

Patients can schedule appointments by calling 800-424-DOCS or visiting HaywoodMedicalGroup.com.
