As part of the ongoing “Humans Who Heal” campaign at Haywood Regional Medical Center, the organization is highlighting team members who contribute to patient care across various departments. The latest spotlight is on Chase Mease, who serves as a transporter and recently completed the Nurse Aide I training program.
Mease has worked at the hospital for over ten months. He said, “Caring for people has always been important to me, especially making sure people feel comfortable, which can mean a lot in places like a hospital.” He emphasized that his work centers on ensuring patients feel cared for and safe during their time at the facility. “My job is all about caring for people. Whether I’m transporting them or just being present, I want them to feel seen and safe,” he explained.
When asked about what healing means to him, Mease responded: “Healing means providing top-quality care and giving patients someone they feel comfortable with, someone who listens and cares.”
He also shared a memorable experience from his time at Haywood Regional Medical Center: “What really stands out to me are the personal connections. I’ve seen patients out in the community who recognize me and stop to say hi. That really means something — that I made a difference in their life.”
Mease highlighted that many may not realize how much effort goes into making patients feel supported throughout their visit. “That we’re awesome! We work hard every day to make patients feel comfortable and supported from the moment they walk in,” he said.
The Humans Who Heal campaign aims to showcase staff members’ commitment to patient-centered care at Haywood Regional Medical Center.
