Haywood Regional Medical Center will hold a free Lunch and Learn event on January 19, 2026, at noon at the Haywood Health and Fitness Center. The session will focus on recent developments in muscle-sparing and robotic-assisted joint replacement surgery.

Arnold Silverberg, MD, from Western Carolina Orthopaedic Specialists, will lead the discussion. Dr. Silverberg is expected to outline how muscle-sparing surgical methods can help preserve tissue around joints, minimize trauma during operations, and support smoother recoveries. He will also discuss how robotic-assisted technology increases surgical accuracy by allowing for adjustments tailored to each patient’s anatomy.

“These advancements are helping many patients experience less pain after surgery, improved joint function, and greater confidence during rehabilitation. By combining robotic guidance with muscle-preserving techniques, orthopedic surgeons are able to deliver more personalized care and optimize long-term outcomes for patients undergoing joint replacement,” according to the press release.

The event aims to educate patients and their families about evolving options in orthopedic surgery when other treatments are no longer effective. Organizers say participants will learn about recovery timelines, physical therapy considerations, and potential effects on quality of life.

According to Haywood Regional Medical Center representatives, “The Lunch and Learn series reflects Haywood Regional Medical Center’s commitment to providing accessible health education and empowering community members to make informed decisions about their care.”

Lunch will be provided at this public event. Those interested in attending can contact Lilly Ferguson at 770-776-7291 or lillian.ferguson@lifepointhealth.net for reservations or further information.
