Haywood Regional Medical Center (HRMC) will hold its Second Annual Community Heart Expo, “Take Heart Haywood,” on Thursday, February 26, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The event will take place at the Haywood Regional Health & Fitness Center Gym and is free for all community members.

The expo is scheduled in recognition of American Heart Month, which aims to increase awareness about cardiovascular disease. According to national statistics, heart disease remains the leading cause of death among men and women in the United States. Nearly one in five deaths across the country is linked to heart disease, and many people have risk factors such as high blood pressure or high cholesterol that remain undiagnosed.

“Heart health is personal and it affects families in every stage of life,” said Sue Shugart, FACHE, CPPS, chief executive officer of HRMC. “This expo is about giving our community simple, approachable ways to ask questions and take steps that support their long-term health.”

The event will be held as a drop-in format with activities and resources available throughout the session. At 11:30 a.m., attendees can join a “Heart Hustle Walk” led by Steven Gore, MD. A heart-healthy lunch will follow at 11:45 a.m., available while supplies last.

No registration is required for participation. HRMC notes that it is an accredited Chest Pain Center and offers cardiology services for those experiencing heart-related symptoms. More information on these services can be found at MyHaywoodRegional.com or by calling 800.424.DOCS. Provider details are also available at HaywoodMedicalGroup.com.
