Haywood Regional Medical Center (HRMC) will host a free Lunch & Learn event focused on understanding dementia. The session is scheduled for Monday, September 15, from 12:00 to 1:00 PM in the second-floor classroom of the Haywood Regional Health and Fitness Center.

The discussion will be led by Dr. Al Mina, general surgeon and chief medical officer at HRMC. Dr. Mina plans to cover what dementia is, its effects on families, expectations throughout its stages, and activities that may help with cognitive function.

Dementia remains a significant health issue in the region, impacting not only patients but also their families and caregivers. The event aims to provide both medical information and practical advice for those affected.

“We’re proud to offer opportunities for our community to learn directly from expert providers and to tackle topics that touch so many lives,” said Sue Shugart, CEO of Haywood Regional Medical Center. “Educational opportunities like this Lunch & Learn help empower our community with knowledge, compassion, and resources that can truly make a difference.”

Lunch will be provided during the event. Attendees will have an opportunity to interact with Dr. Mina.

Those interested in attending can register by contacting Lilly Ferguson at 770-776-7291 or lillian.ferguson@lifepointhealth.net.

The event will take place at 262 Leroy George Drive in Clyde, North Carolina.
