Blasting work for the Metropolitan Sewerage District (MSD) French Broad River Pump Station Project is set to begin on Wednesday, Sept. 17. The activity will focus on the Phase 1 river crossing at French Broad River Park and is expected to continue through the week, with the possibility of extending into the following week. During each blast, traffic in and around the area will be halted.
The Wilma Dykeman Greenway will close this week as part of the project. A detour will be in place, and the closure is expected to last about four months while contractors clear and haul materials to construct Phase 2 of the river park crossing.
Additionally, Lyman Street’s southbound lane will face periodic temporary closures to allow for construction equipment and material staging.
According to project officials, these steps are necessary for keeping construction on schedule. Blasting is described as a critical phase in advancing the overall project.
