Asheville VA hospital adopts new COVID-19 protocol

People who want to enter the Charles George Veterans’ Affairs Medical Center in Asheville will have to answer a few questions to gain entry. 

The questions are part of an effort by the Western North Carolina Veterans' Affairs Healthcare System to prevent the spread of COVID-19 inside its VA hospitals.

The three questions come from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), according to the hospital. 

Visitors will be asked if they are experiencing flu-like symptoms including cough, fever, or shortness of breath; if they’ve traveled to a high-risk area for transmission of COVID-19; and finally, if they’ve been in close contact with someone who has been confirmed or is being tested for COVID-19? 

Anyone who anticipates answering "yes" to two of these questions will be urged to remain at home and call  (828) 298-7911 and press 3. 

Patients are urged to contact a VA hospital to see if it’s possible to schedule a phone or video chat appointment. Valet parking can be used, but drivers should remain in their vehicles until they are questioned.
