Cost of college went up for all students at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 1.2 percent for 2018-19 at Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

North Carolina residents paid $2,632 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $30 more than the $2,602 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 233.4 percent more than residents this year, or $8,776. Their price tag grew 0.3 percent from $8,746 in 2017-18.

About 97 percent of the school's undergraduate population are North Carolina residents. And about 3 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 68 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 309 students received grants or scholarships totaling $2.2 million and 54 students took out student loans totaling more than $353,656.

Including all undergraduates (6,892), 3,303 students used grants or scholarships totaling $11.3 million, and 1,036 students took out $6.7 million in federal student loans.
