TOWN OF WAYNESVILLE: 2021 Civilian Police Academy

Policemen

Town of Waynesville issued the following announcement on Jul. 12.

The Waynesville Civilian Police Academy provides citizens the chance to understand the various aspects of the police department on a more personal level and the opportunity to interact with the officers that are out on our streets.  It’s a chance to see how our officers work in the real world and it’s not like TV.

A wide range of topics are discussed, including, but not limited to: officer qualifications and training, life on the street—including the why behind what officers do, and crime scene investigation.

You will get to follow a case from when the call is received by Dispatch to when it is solved/closed by the detectives. Attendees also get to see how the K-9 officers are trained and get to meet one of our K-9s. You will learn about the role the Special Response Team plays and get to see some of their equipment. In addition, attendees will be offered the opportunity for a ride-a-long with one of our officers. The class is FREE.

The Academy meets Thursday nights for 8 weeks at the Waynesville Police Department. Classes are from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Questions can be emailed to civvol@waynesvillenc.gov Class size is limited.
