TOWN OF MONTREAT: Town Administrator Leaving Montreat

Resign

Town of Montreat issued the following announcement on Jan. 17.

The Mayor and Town Council recently received a letter of resignation from Town Administrator Alex Carmichael, effective February 20, 2022. In the letter, Alex explained that he had been approached about and accepted a position as Town Manager of Laurel Park, near Hendersonville. Moving from a Town Administrator to a Town Manager is a significant increase in responsibility, one that Alex’s experience at Montreat has prepared him for. Laurel Park has a population of approximately 2,400.

“It has been the honor of a lifetime to serve as Montreat’s Town Administrator,” Alex stated in his resignation letter. “Through the able leadership of the [Town] Commission, Montreat is poised for more great things to come, and I am grateful that I have been able to play a small role in the Town’s history.”

In commenting about Alex’s departure, Mayor Helms stated, “We are thankful for Alex’s leadership over the past five years. Alex did a lot of good for Montreat and Montreat did a lot for Alex. We wish him and his family the best in his new venture.” Coincidentally, Alex pointed out that his departure date “is exactly five years to the day since I began my tenure with Montreat.”

The Council is making plans to find Alex’s permanent successor and has begun the search for an interim administrator.
