Buncombe County’s 96 coaches earned an average salary of $39,667 in 2022, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

This is the 20th highest average salary per county earned by coaches at North Carolina post-secondary schools during 2022.

Buncombe County is home to three post-secondary schools that paid coaches during 2022. Among them, University of North Carolina at Asheville stood out with the highest average coaching salary of $54,041.

Male coaches of men's teams received $39,984 on average in Buncombe County, while female coaches in charge of women's teams earned an average of $37,901.

Research from the Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Management found NCAA coaches are compensated like CEOs, with top coaches earning more than $1.5 million annually.
