The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will conduct urgent pipe repairs on Swannanoa River Road between Tunnel Road (US 70) and Governor’s View Road. The work is scheduled to begin at 7 a.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2025, and is expected to conclude by 7 a.m. on Sunday, December 7.

During this period, non-resident vehicles will not be allowed access to the affected section of Swannanoa River Road. Residents in the area will still be able to reach their homes.

Visitors planning trips to the WNC Nature Center or other nearby venues are advised to use Azalea Road as an alternative route.

The City of Asheville has recommended that travelers check NCDOT social media channels for any updates regarding the road closure.
