Asheville Parks & Recreation announced on Mar. 13 that Truck City AVL will return to Tanger Outlets Asheville on Saturday, April 18, from 1 to 4 p.m. The free event offers residents the chance to explore more than 40 large vehicles and meet the crews who operate them.
The event aims to give community members a closer look at the essential work performed by city staff and the equipment they use daily. D. Tyrell McGirt, APR Director, said, āMany of us see the hard work and unmatched expertise of women and men who keep our city running ā day after day and after emergencies ā providing stability and services that help us live comfortably. Truck City AVL is a hands-on way to meet these talented individuals and see massive machines essential to our everyday lives. You donāt want to pass it up!ā
Attendees can climb inside fire engines, sit at the controls of excavators, view a working street plow, and explore utility trucks used for maintaining vital city systems. The event also features a sensory-friendly hour from 1-2 p.m., during which there will be no horn honking to accommodate individuals with autism, dementia, PTSD, hyposensitivity, or other sensory considerations.
In addition to vehicle displays, families can enjoy the APR Rec ānā Roll Mobile Play Zone with a kidsā driving course, interactive games, prizes, and a trackless train ride. The event will take place rain or shine in the back parking lot near the food court entrance at Tanger Outlets Asheville.
