The City of Asheville is inviting community members to participate in the upcoming Spring Free Store event in efforts to reduce landfill waste and promote sustainability. The event, set to take place at the Dr. Wesley Grant Sr. Southside Community Center, aims to bring people together for a unique shopping experience that benefits both individuals and the environment.

The Spring Free Store, scheduled for May 17 and 18, offers a platform for individuals to donate and browse through upcycled items. As stated by the organizers, it is a "fun 'shopping' event that is good for your wallet and for the planet." Donations of various items such as clothing, accessories, electronics, toys, and books are encouraged, fostering a culture of reuse and community sharing.

In line with the city's waste reduction goals, the Spring Free Store provides an opportunity for residents to declutter their homes without adding to landfilled waste. The event also promotes neighborly interactions and the concept of a sharing economy, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in sustainable practices.

To ensure a smooth experience for all participants, the organizers have outlined guidelines for donations and market conduct. Clean and usable items are welcomed, while certain items like food, furniture, and personal care products are not accepted. Attendees are reminded to bring their own bags or boxes for carrying items and to adhere to the market guidelines, including the presence of service animals only and adult supervision for children.

For those interested in volunteering or seeking more information about the event, Alex Miller can be contacted at amiller@ashevillenc.gov. The City of Asheville encourages everyone to join in this initiative towards a more sustainable and environmentally conscious community.
