Asheville Parks & Recreation (APR) has announced the return of various programs and special events, aiming to foster community connections and improve quality of life. This initiative comes as part of the city's recovery efforts following the impacts of Tropical Storm Helene.
APR Director D. Tyrell McGirt stated, “Shortly before unprecedented destruction brought on by Tropical Storm Helene, our community created Recreate Asheville, a new 10-year parks and recreation plan focused on the future.” He emphasized that equitable access to diverse wellness, educational, and cultural experiences for all ages is a priority. The APR team has been working diligently to reopen parks and community centers while reintroducing popular programs such as basketball leagues, line dancing, and holiday events.
The current program guide is accessible online in both English and Spanish. Residents are encouraged to visit avlrec.com or contact program locations for updates on schedules as some activities have experienced changes.
