The City of Asheville has completed temporary repaving on Hiawassee Street, between Rankin Avenue and North Lexington Avenue. This measure aims to provide smoother access for both motorists and pedestrians. The work serves as an interim solution while planning progresses for a permanent upgrade to the utility and stormwater systems.

City officials are working closely with utility partners to finalize designs that will align infrastructure improvements with the previously identified upgraded stormwater system. A future road closure is expected for permanent stormwater construction, anticipated in Winter 2026.

Derek Wainscott, Stormwater Division Manager, expressed gratitude towards the community: “We appreciate the community’s patience as we work toward long-term improvements. This temporary repaving ensures safe and accessible travel while we continue planning the next phase of utility coordination and infrastructure upgrades.”

The City plans to provide updates on future construction timelines as they become available through their project page.
