The City of Asheville has announced the resumption of bus stops along Swannanoa River Road on May 4, 2025. This development follows the completion of repairs by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and the subsequent reopening of Swannanoa River Road, allowing Asheville Rides Transit (ART) to reintegrate these bus stops into its network.
The reopening marks an important achievement in the city's recovery from Tropical Storm Helene, as these were the final bus stops to be brought back into operation after the storm damage. Ashley Haire, Transportation Director, stated: “We’re grateful for the patience of our riders and the hard work of NCDOT in restoring this vital corridor. Bringing these bus stops back online is a key step in reconnecting communities impacted by the storm.”
Furthermore, the city plans to restore bus shelters along the affected area of Swannanoa River Road. The completion of the shelter restoration will occur separately, with updates to be provided as further details become available.
