CITY OF ASHEVILLE: Public Pools Open on Saturday and Sunday Beginning August 6

City of Asheville issued the following announcement on Aug. 1.

As in previous years, Asheville’s two public swimming pools will operate on Saturday and Sunday only after the first weekend in August – but one of them will remain open later into the month than it has in the past.

  • Malvern Hills Pool (75 Rumbough Pl.)  – will remain open on August 13-14 and August 20-21; the pool was previously scheduled to close for the season on August 8.
  • Recreation Park Pool (65 Gashes Creek Rd.)  – will operate through Labor Day, September 5.
Beginning August 6, 2022: Regular operating hours for both Malvern Hills and Recreation Park Pools:

  • 11 a.m.-6 p.m. on Saturday
  • 1-6 p.m. on Sunday.
  • Admission is $3 per person
“In our second summer of partnering with Swim Club Management Group, we’re happy to announce the schedule extension for Malvern Hills Pool,” according to D. Tyrell McGirt, Director of Asheville Parks & Recreation. “Their team worked diligently with Wayne Simmons, our Program and Operations Manager for Recreation and Athletics. With most of our aquatics staff gearing up for a new school year, sports, and extracurricular activities, extending the swim season can be challenging, but we want to ensure that everyone is able to enjoy every moment possible at the community’s public pools.”

Both pools opened later than anticipated this year while unanticipated repairs took place to ensure the safety of pool visitors. Asheville Parks & Recreation was able to supplement pool access with free water-based programs throughout the community.
