If you live near a stream or the Swannanoa River here in Black Mountain, please act now to remove items in the floodway and floodplain to reduce the risk of a debris jam occurring and flooding.

Nothing should be stored in the floodway, but even if you have items there temporarily, now is the time to move them to higher ground.

Look for items like the following to remove from the floodplain prior to the storm:

Grills

Trampolines

Chairs, tables, and benches

Children’s toys

Lawn equipment

You can identify floodways and floodplains using FEMA’s Flood Map Center: FEMA Flood Map Service Center | Welcome!

Preparing now can reduce the impact from a major rain event, such as the one we are anticipating receiving this weekend.

Take care and be safe!
