The City of Asheville recently allocated over $4.8 million to affordable housing projects through the Housing Trust Fund (HTF). The HTF, established in 2000 and administered by the City's Affordable Housing Division, aims to support the development and preservation of affordable housing within Asheville.

During a recent City Council meeting on April 23, 2024, five projects were approved for funding from the HTF. These projects aim to provide housing solutions for various income levels within the community. One of the approved projects includes Star Point Apartments, which will offer 60 units with specific loan terms to serve individuals within the 30-60% Area Median Income (AMI) bracket.

Sasha Vrtunski, the Affordable Housing Officer with the Community Development Division, emphasized the importance of the HTF in creating and preserving affordable housing options for low- and moderate-income families, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. Vrtunski stated, "The goal of the Housing Trust Fund is to ensure that people of all income levels have access to safe, decent, and affordable housing in the City of Asheville."

The HTF, funded through various sources such as developer contributions, fees, taxes, and private donations, has been instrumental in supporting a wide range of affordable housing projects over the years. These projects include constructing new units, rehabilitating existing units, and providing rental assistance to low-income residents.
