The Historic Resources Commission (HRC) has presented the 2024 Historic Resources Champion awards to two notable recipients for their contributions to preserving the history and historic resources of Asheville and Buncombe County. The awards were announced on Thursday, May 23.

Ms. Priscilla Robinson was recognized for her work documenting urban renewal in Asheville’s historic Southside neighborhood. Additionally, Mr. Harry Blomberg and the Blomberg family were honored for their efforts in preserving Biltmore Industries, currently known as Grovewood Village, which was designated as a Local Historic Landmark in 1998.

The HRC was established in 1979 through a local ordinance adopted by both the City of Asheville and Buncombe County. The commission comprises 12 members, with six appointments from each jurisdiction. All members have equal voting rights and serve three-year terms.

The HRC reviews projects within local historic districts and landmarks to ensure consistency with design review guidelines. Regular meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month at 4 p.m. in the North Conference Room on the first floor of the Asheville City Building at 70 Court Plaza, Asheville. These meetings can also be livestreamed online via the City’s YouTube channel or online engagement hub.
