Asheville Parks & Recreation unveils fall-winter activity guide

Asheville Parks & Recreation (APR) invites community members to explore a wide range of activities, classes, and special events through its latest program guide for September-December 2024. The free guide is accessible at community centers and online at ashevillenc.gov/apr-guide in both English and Spanish.

The program guide can be viewed as a PDF or digital flipbook in English, with the option to search programs online available in 133 languages via Google Translate’s Website Translator.

Highlighted Programs:

For teens and tweens, activities include the "3 Point Knockout Challenge," "Swiftie Skate Night" featuring Taylor Swift's music, "Halloween Creepy Climbing," and the "Teen Pumpkin Carving Challenge."

Young adults can participate in events such as "Barktoberfest," the "Wild Reads Book Club," "Wise Words Open Mic," Grove Street Community Center’s Cornhole Tournament, and the Sneaker Ball.

Adults and retirees have opportunities like Harvest House Community Center’s Murder Mystery Party, Stephens-Lee Community Center’s Pickleball Clinics, the Senior Fall Festival, various Day Trips including visits to Hot Springs and apple orchards, as well as Adult Candle Making sessions.

Kids' programs feature creative activities such as Toddler Pumpkin Palooza, Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day, Family Paint Nights, and Bluey Blast.

Outdoor enthusiasts can join Daniel’s Fly Fishing series, engage in Forest Therapy walks, learn archery through Adult Archery sessions or connect with nature at Asheville Ecogathering.

Therapeutic recreation offerings include TR Bowling, TR Tennis lessons, TR Adult Crafting & Cooking classes, and Adaptive Indoor Rock Climbing.

Upcoming registration dates are set for August 5 for Adult 6v6 Indoor Volleyball and Youth Basketball; September 3 marks the opening for Adult Flag Football registrations.

Asheville Parks & Recreation oversees more than 65 public parks along with playgrounds and open spaces throughout Asheville. Its facilities include recreation centers with full amenities such as swimming pools and sports fields. The department also manages Riverside Cemetery. With ten miles of paved greenways alongside numerous natural surface trails available within its portfolio. APR serves as a vital hub for residents to connect with their neighbors while enjoying Asheville's natural beauty.
