Celebrated every year in September, National Senior Center Month highlights the importance of senior centers to the health and well-being of communities like Asheville. These centers provide support and encouragement to older adults and offer a space for community members to explore unique interests, talents, and aspirations. This year's theme is "Powering Connections," encouraging older adults to discover new friendships with neighbors of all ages, engage in health and wellness opportunities, and explore creativity.

Below are some highlights for September, including weekly classes and monthly clubs designed for older adults. Grove Street and Harvest House community centers are open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., offering areas for socializing, playing billiards and games, exercising, and more.

Clubs that meet monthly or bimonthly include:

- Get Fit, Feel Great!

- Fresh Food & Engagement Markets

- Healthy Living

- HELP: Healthy Engagement Leading to Prevention

- Tai Chi Chih

- Treks Hiking Club

Annual fitness center memberships are free for community members aged 60 and over.

Fun activities include:

- Bingo

- Bridge

- Hand & Foot Canasta
