Christy Bass, the subject of this edition of APR Innovators, joined Asheville Parks & Recreation (APR) as an Administrative Assistant on May 5, 2008. Over the years, she has held various positions including Business Services Supervisor and Program and Operations Manager. Currently, she serves as the Resource Division Manager.

Bass was drawn to APR by a desire to serve the community and found that her college degree in recreation aligned well with the role. Reflecting on her accomplishments within the department, she expressed pride in developing a team dedicated to serving the community and continually seeking improvements.

"The Resource Division provides support and information externally to our community and internally to department staff," said Bass. "I am proud of creating and developing a team of dedicated professionals who care about the people we serve."

Working for APR holds personal significance for Bass. She appreciates having a job that brings joy and allows family participation in initiatives like tree planting projects aimed at increasing Asheville's tree canopy.

Professionally, Bass has grown significantly since joining APR. She has earned a Masters in Public Administration (MPA), obtained her Society for Human Resources Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) certification, attended two National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) management schools, and continues to learn from her colleagues.

Outside of work, Bass enjoys walking or hiking with her dogs, gardening, paddleboarding, kayaking, and spending time with her family.

"I work for Asheville Parks & Recreation because I like being part of a team that does so much for the community," she stated.

Opportunities to join Christy Bass and other parks and recreation professionals making significant impacts can be found online through Asheville Parks & Recreation's current listings.
