The City of Asheville has decided to cancel the Festival of Neighborhoods, which was scheduled for Saturday, September 14. This decision comes in response to a forecast predicting significant rain throughout the weekend and into the following week.

City staff expressed concerns that the weather conditions would negatively impact both attendees and vendors. Additionally, they noted potential damage to the MLK Park ballfield, a crucial location for the festival.

“While we were excited to host the Festival of Neighborhoods, the safety and enjoyment of our attendees and vendors are our top priorities,” said Kristina Israel with the Communication and Public Engagement Department. “We look forward to working with neighborhoods, vendors and community organizations to offer this event again in the future.”

Rebooted in 2023, the Festival of Neighborhoods is an annual event organized by the Neighborhood Advisory Committee. It aims to bring together neighborhood organizations from across Asheville for a day dedicated to community engagement, food, games, and connection.
