The City of Asheville has introduced "The Progress Report" to keep community members informed about various projects in and around the city. This initiative aims to provide updates on ongoing projects as they progress toward completion.

Water Meter Replacement Program

Contractors are currently working across the city as part of the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system rollout. As of September 4, nearly 24,500 meters have been installed, representing a 38.7% completion rate. The project aims to replace meters for all approximately 63,000 water department customers by 2025.

Patton Avenue Projects

Several improvement projects are underway on Patton Avenue, a key thoroughfare impacting many commuters and businesses.

Patton Ave Sidewalk Accessibility Project

The northside sidewalk and ramp work is nearly complete, with final touches expected by the week of September 16, weather permitting. Crews will then address the last ADA ramp on the southside. Tree planting is scheduled for October 2024.

Carter Street – Ann Street – Patton Avenue Stormwater Improvement Project

With waterline relocation now complete, crews are proceeding with installing a new stormwater system. Lane closures on Patton Avenue will continue for safety reasons during this phase, which is projected to last three weeks, weather permitting.

College and Patton Improvements Project

This project aims to enhance safety, accessibility, and equity on sections of College Street and Patton Avenue in Downtown Asheville. The solicitation process for selecting a contractor for resurfacing, striping, and ramp work is expected to begin this fall. Following City Council approval of the contract, work is anticipated to start in 2025.

Downtown Patton Avenue Corridor Feasibility Study

A presentation on this study's findings will be given to the Multi-Modal Transportation Commission on September 25. The community is invited to attend a public open house event on October 15 at Lord Auditorium in Pack Memorial Library from 5-7 PM.
