Water resources in Asheville are currently unable to perform a full damage assessment due to ongoing conditions. Crews will assess the water lines once they can access them. Customers with running water are advised to fill bathtubs and containers in preparation for potential loss of service. A boil water advisory remains in effect.

Potable water is limited and should be used only for drinking, not for flushing. The State Emergency Operations Center is sending potable water to Asheville, and distribution points will be established soon. Information will be shared through radio, television news, AVL Alerts, the City of Asheville website at www.ashevillenc.gov, and social media updates.

The WNC Agriculture Center located at 1301 Fanning Bridge Road in Fletcher, NC is serving as a shelter.

Bus service is suspended on Saturday, September 28 while buses are involved in relief efforts. Buses on special assignments will display “Special Assignment” on their destination signs. Regular services will resume with normal route names displayed. For up-to-date information or text alerts about bus services, text 41411 with “NextART” or call (828) 259-5691.

The Asheville Police Department (APD) is fully staffed and supported by Federal and NC State agents along with other local law enforcement agencies. A curfew from 7:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. is in effect until further notice.

The Asheville Fire Department (AFD) continues rescue efforts and will begin canvassing neighborhoods for needs. Fire stations have firefighters available 24/7 for those needing medical assistance who cannot call 911.

Structural damage should be reported to insurance companies promptly. A city-wide initial assessment by FEMA and city staff will begin Sunday, September 29. Development Services Department (DSD) will issue permits for removal and replacement of damaged areas without fees.

For questions about buildings affected by the storm, contact the City of Asheville Building Safety Division at (828) 259-5967 or email buildingsafety@ashevillenc.gov.

Public Works is clearing storm debris from roads to provide critical access for emergency vehicles and will run routes for debris removal in the coming weeks. Updates on trash and recycling collection will be provided continuously.
