Asheville Parks & Recreation (APR) has announced a lineup of Halloween events following the postponement of activities due to Tropical Storm Helene. These events are designed for children, families, and community members and will take place throughout October, with additional programs planned for November. All events are free and do not require prior registration.
“APR’s annual Festival of Frights series has become a tradition for many in our community,” said APR Director D. Tyrell McGirt. “While our programming team had to replace pumpkin carving, canine trick or treat, and murder mystery parties with an abbreviated schedule, we can’t wait to welcome everyone back to celebrate the spooky season and Asheville’s resilience, unity, and mountain spirit. We can’t wait to announce more programs and events as the city rebounds.”
The Halloween festivities begin on October 26 with a "Haunted Parking Lot on the Hill" at Stephens-Lee Community Center from 4-6 pm. Families can explore animated creatures and inflatables while collecting candy.
On October 27, the "Boo Bash" will be held at Tanger Outlets from 2-4 pm. Activities include magic shows, pumpkin crafts, music entertainment, giveaways, and trick-or-treating.
October 30 features "Movies in the Park" at Pack Square Park from 6-9 pm. Attendees are encouraged to wear costumes while watching the horror film Insidious.
On Halloween day itself, there are several events: "Halloween Zumba Gold" at Stephens-Lee Community Center from 12-1 pm; "Booville Community Halloween Party" at Dr. Wesley Grant Sr. Southside Community Center from 5-8 pm; "Shiloh Trunk or Treat" at Linwood Crump Shiloh Community Center from 6-8 pm; and "Montford Haunted Tent" at Tempie Avery Montford Community Center during the same hours.
Post-Halloween activities include a beginner line dance session on November 1 at Stephens-Lee Community Center from 12-1 pm; a Día de Muertos Lotería event on November 1 at Burton Street Community Center from 4-6 pm; and a gardening event on November 2 at Stephens-Lee Community Center from 1-3 pm.
APR aims to make Asheville a better place by providing opportunities for all ages through its management of public parks and recreational facilities across the city.
