The City of Asheville is continuing its efforts to assist residents following Tropical Storm Helene by providing daily updates on recovery resources.

Starting December 12, lead test kits will be available for pickup at four locations for customers who requested them before December 11. These locations include Asheville City Hall, North Asheville Library, East Asheville Library, and West Asheville Library. An AVL Alert will notify customers the day before their scheduled pickup. The final day for pickup is December 19, and drop-offs are due by December 21. Results from these tests are expected within four to six weeks.

Those interested in obtaining a lead test kit can request one by calling 828-259-5962 or emailing leadprevention@ashevillenc.gov. More information about water recovery efforts can be found on the City of Asheville’s Water Services Recovery page.

Debris removal teams have collected approximately 175,685 cubic yards of storm debris so far. Updates on debris collection sites are available daily on the storm debris management webpage.

The city has also launched the Asheville Recovers Engagement Hub to keep the community informed about recovery progress. This online tool includes updates on specific focus areas, an interactive Q&A forum, and email alerts on relevant topics.

To promote community engagement during the holiday season, Asheville Parks & Recreation and Harrah’s Cherokee Center – Asheville will host a Holiday Skate Jam on Friday, December 13. From 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., the arena will become a skating rink with music and decorations for all ages to enjoy. Attendees should bring their own skates as rentals are limited; however, free parking is provided at Harrah’s Cherokee Center Garage.
