The City of Asheville has announced the initiation of its first Request for Qualifications (RFQ) as part of a broader effort to recover and enhance infrastructure following recent storm impacts. This marks an important step in the city's strategic plan to rebuild.

The initial RFQ focuses on repairs to the front nine holes of the Municipal Golf Course, a historic site managed through a public-private partnership. The aim is to restore it to its condition before the storm while integrating resilience and mitigation measures.

Storm damage at the golf course included over 40 downed trees and three damaged bunkers on the back nine holes. Tree removal is underway, and bunker restoration is complete. The course reopened as a nine-hole facility on October 28, 2024, and will remain open during ongoing restoration efforts. Moving forward with this RFQ helps prevent further taxpayer losses, currently averaging $30,000 monthly due to operational disruptions.

This project is just one among many planned recovery efforts. Future projects are being carefully sequenced for efficient rebuilding. A key focus will be municipal land management, aiming to select a design team capable of maximizing eligibility for mitigation funding and fortifying against future environmental challenges.
