The City of Asheville and Buncombe County's efforts in waste management have yielded a significant milestone, diverting over one million pounds of food waste from landfills. In recognition of this achievement, a community event will be held on April 26 at the Stephens-Lee Recreation Center.

"This celebration marks a tremendous accomplishment," said organizers. The event, set from 10 a.m. to noon, is designed to be family-friendly and free of charge. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on activities and explore educational booths.

Participants are also encouraged to take home some of the compost they've contributed to creating. This event aims to highlight the importance of composting and encourage steps to reduce food waste further. The community is invited to meet the team managing the compost program.
