To help Asheville-area residents, the Chamber of Commerce created a web page with information about the 2020 general election in November.
The Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce site contains basic information such as voting requirements but also lesser know areas such content about early voting, which starts Oct. 15, and the absentee ballot process.
For 2020, election officials anticipate a higher number of mail-in votes submitted because of COVID-19.
North Carolina residents have until Tuesday, Oct. 27, to request mail-in ballots. However, the deadline to register for mail-in voting is Oct. 9.
Those who want to vote in-person, polling locations will open as of Oct. 15 until Oct. 31.
"We still believe Absentee voting is a great choice – the mail is secure in our county, and if done early (first to submit the Absentee Ballot Request online), it is secure," the American Association of University Women said in a statement the chamber posted to its website. "Some risks exist with in-person voting such as the possibility that with poll workers in short supply, there may be long lines at our county's usually easily accessed polls."
