CITY OF ASHEVILLE: Office of Data and Performance Shares Project Updates

Update

City of Asheville issued the following announcement on Jan. 31.

In 2022 the Office of Data & Performance will advance it’s mission of utilizing data for more equitable outcomes through participation in several projects aligned with key City Council priorities.

ODAP will continue to work on the following projects throughout 2022:

Reparations Data Support

The Office of Data & Performance has worked in collaboration with the Office of Equity and Inclusion,  the City Manager’s Office, and the Communications and Public Engagement department  to support the City of Asheville Reparations initiative since it was approved by Council in 2020.  ODAP will continue supporting the project in collaboration with IT Services and the Reparations project manager by providing data analysis and visualization efforts in collaboration with impact area experts, assisting in survey creation and implementation and GIS and web development services.

Houselessness Data Support

This collaborative effort between ODAP and the City’s Community and Economic Development department focuses on improving how the City uses data to communicate and assess the impact of the City’s Homeless Initiative. As a first phase, this project will add regular reporting of several standard performance measures on our website.

American Rescue Plan Funding

This collaborative effort between ODAP and City staff is focused on providing support for the development of staff recommendations to City Council for American Rescue Plan funds use, as well as performance tracking for funds once they are awarded.

FY23 Budget Process

The Fiscal Year 22 budget process was a collaborative effort led by the City’s Budget Office that included participation from the City departments of Communication and Public Engagement, the Office of Equity and Inclusion and ODAP that focused on examining departmental resource allocation as it pertains to service delivery.  The Fiscal Year 23 budget process builds on these efforts to more fully integrate data into the budget decision-making process.

Employee Compensation

ODAP, in collaboration with the City’s Human Resources Department, will participate in tracking the impact of implementing the recommendations of the City’s Compensation Study on the areas of employee retention and organizational equity efforts.

Progress Reporting

In collaboration with the Communications and Public Engagement and the department of Planning and Urban Design, ODAP will continue to develop City website pages for regular reporting on City goals and progress, particularly in the context of the Comprehensive Plan and Council priorities.

“I am excited to build on the work we have been doing over the past year to truly begin integrating data and performance thinking into our core City processes. I’m especially excited about our collaboration with Budget and with Planning and Urban Design to integrate resource planning, progress reporting and data.” Eric Jackson, Manager of the Office of Data and Performance.
