CITY OF ASHEVILLE: Offices Closed for Veterans Day, ART buses to run on regular schedule

 City of Asheville issued the following announcement on Nov. 7.

In observance of Veterans Day, the City of Asheville offices will be closed Friday, November 11, 2022. Here is a look at how the City will be observing the day, and any impact to services.

Veterans Day Ceremony

The City of Asheville and partner agencies will honor our local Veterans during a Veterans Day Ceremony on November 11. The in-person ceremony will take place Friday, November 11, 2022,  11 a.m. at Charles George VA Medical Center, 1100 Tunnel Road, Asheville. The ceremony can also be viewed at 2 p.m. on the City of Asheville YouTube channel. 

Transit

Asheville Rides Transit (ART) bus service will run on a normal schedule, and Veterans can ride fare free for the day.

 

Parks & Recreation

All APR parks will be open from 6 a.m.-10 p.m. This includes greenways, playgrounds, dog parks, outdoor sport courts and fields, river access points, and Riverside Cemetery.

All recreation and community centers will be closed Veterans Day, but outdoor amenities such as playgrounds, sports courts and fields, and picnic tables and benches will be available. 

Community & Regional Entertainment Facilities

The Harrah’s Cherokee Center Asheville will be open on Friday, November 11 and is hosting the Asheville Championships and NCAA season opening tournament.  More information can be found at www.harrahscherokeecenterasheville.com

The WNC Nature Center, Aston Park Tennis Center and Asheville Municipal Golf Course will be open for normal operating hours.  

Emergency services

All public safety services, including police, fire and emergency response, will operate to normal schedule – 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Water Resources staff will be available for water related emergencies 24 hours a day over the holiday .

Customers can call the customer service line at 828-251-1122 to report water related emergencies, leaks, breaks and no water calls.
