Former President Donald Trump, speaking at a recent Asheville event, said he will "seal the border" and deport illegal aliens.

"The colossal influx of illegal aliens into our cities is driving rent through the roof," said Trump. "That's why as president, I will seal the border and send them all back to their countries where they belong."

"Prices will come down and they'll come down dramatically," he said.

Trumps remarks came at an economic speech held at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium at Harrah’s Cherokee Center.

Almost 2.6 million illegal aliens have been encountered by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in Fiscal Year 2024, according to a CBP report

There were only 646,822 illegal alien encounters in Fiscal Year 2020, during which the Biden-Harris Administration took office.

Vice President Kamala Harris was appointed by President Joe Biden on March 24, 2021 “to lead efforts to stamp migration across the U.S.-Mexico border.”

"This new surge we’re dealing with now started with the last administration, but it’s our responsibility to deal with it humanely and to stop what’s happening," said Biden. "This increase has been consequential, but the vice president’s agreed – among the multiple other things I have her leading and I appreciate it – agreed to lead our diplomatic effort and work with those nations to accept the returnees and enhance migration enforcement at their borders."

Since Harris’ appointment, the “surge” of illegal aliens crossing the U.S.-Mexico border, particularly the Southwest portion of the U.S., has grown worse.

"Kamala failed miserably as the Border Czar," said Steve Cortes, president of the League of American Workers. "Countless innocent Americans have been raped, attacked, and murdered because of her mismanagement. Now Kamala wants a promotion? No way."

An ad from Restoration PAC earlier this summer called Harris a "complete failure" on the border, Old North News reported.

A September American Greatness poll of North Carolina voters showed 57% of the state's voters favor Trump on the issue of securing the border. Only 35% favored Harris on the issue.

“I got a hell of a big problem when we treat illegal aliens like they're citizens,” State Rep. George Cleveland (R-Onslow) told Old North News. “They are not. I mean, come on, 'illegal' explains it, but nobody wants to use that word anymore. If somebody comes into your country breaking the law, to come into your country and they're a migrant. That's garbage if they're an illegal alien and should be treated as such.”

That poll also found Trump leading Harris by 3 points in North Carolina. 48.9% of voters said they'll vote for the former President, while 45.9% said they plan on voting for Harris.
